Pope Francis made a special appeal on the “Day of Prayer for Peace in the Middle East” after praying the Sunday Angelus, calling for dialogue and coexistence in the birthplace of Christianity.
POPE FRANCIS
“I invite everyone to implore God’s mercy and peace in that region. May the Lord support the efforts of those who strive for dialogue and fraternal coexistence in the Middle East, where the Christian faith was born and is alive, despite the suffering.”
His message comes only days after the Vatican expressed its concern for the future of Christians in Lebanon.
The Pope also expressed his sympathy for the Czech Republic, where a hurricane killed five people and destroyed hundreds of houses.
POPE FRANCIS
“I pray for the departed and the injured and for those who have had to leave their seriously damaged homes.”
Ahead of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Pope Francis asked Catholics to pray for him while remembering St. Peter, the Church's first pope.
POPE FRANCIS
“I ask you to pray for the Pope. Pray in a special way: the Pope needs your prayers!”
He then greeted the pilgrims travelling to Rome from around the world, and encouraged them to visit the tombs of Saints Peter and Paul.
