Pope Francis has ordered that the pre-seminary at the center of an abuse trial will move to a new location outside of the Vatican in September.
The Holy See says the measure has been under consideration for some time in order “to facilitate the proximity of young students to the places where they carry out their studies and practice their recreational activities.”
A Vatican tribunal is investigating alleged abuse committed by one former student to another when both were residing at the pre-seminary as minors, before 2012.
The St. Pius X Pre-seminary has been based inside the Vatican for 75 years, and its students are altar servers for Masses celebrated in St. Peter's Basilica.
