The United States' special climate envoy John Kerry met with Pope Francis at the Vatican to discuss climate change.
'So incredible, wonderful to be here.'
The Pope told him that he intends to participate in the Cop26 Climate Conference to be held in Glasgow this November.
John Kerry says the Pope is one of 'the most powerful voices' on the planet in facing the climate crisis. During his visit he thanked him for his concern for the environment.
He also expressed his hope that the Pope will help governments seek more ambitious goals in combating climate change.
As a gift Kerry gave the Pope a copy of his autobiography.
In return, the Pope gave him a sculpture, titled “Messenger of Peace.”
'This will be right on my desktop.'
Their meeting ended on a light note, after Kerry struggled to open the Pope's final gift.
'I'll open it when I go out.'
It was not their first meeting. John Kerry visited Pope Francis in 2016 when he was Secretary of State in the Obama administration.
Now it seems they might meet again in Scotland if the Pope confirms his trip to Glasgow.
