This Friday, May 14, Pope Francis is participating in an ambitious project to promote births: “Stati Generali della Natalità”.
The Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, and other officials of the Italian Government are also participating.
The birth rate in Italy has decreased by 3.8% since 2019, registering just over 400,000 births in 2020—the lowest level since World War II.
It is the first public event that the Pope attends in Rome since the second wave of the pandemic hit Italy. It starts at 9 a.m. (Rome time).
