South Korean cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk has died at 89 years old. He was the president of the Korean Bishops' Conference from 1996 to 1999 and the archbishop of Seoul for 14 years.
Benedict XVI made him a cardinal on March 24, 2006. He was a member of the Pontifical Council for the Family and the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.
The number of cardinals drops to 223. But the number of electors remains at 126, since 97 of them are over 80 years old, meaning they cannot participate in a conclave.
