The pope celebrated Holy Thursday Mass privately in Card. Angelo Becciu's apartment. The pope asked the cardinal to resign last Sept. 24, stripping him of his rights as cardinal.
Sources close to the pope interpret it as a paternal gesture toward the cardinal, typical of Holy Thursday.
This is the first time a pope celebrates the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper privately.
The Vatican has not distributed any images of the event.
