Raúl Berzosa is one of the best known contemporary artists in the world of religious art.

The Spanish artist's talent is evident in dozens of his paintings, found in Colombia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Guatemala and the Vatican. Both Pope Francis and Benedict XVI have shown an appreciation for his art.

Now his most emotive pieces about Jesus' Passion offer visual representations of Holy Week meditations by the last three popes. They're compiled in the book, “Semana Santa, en los pinceles de Berzosa” (Holy Week, in Berzosa's paintbrushes).

“One of the things that stands out is in the epilogue that Raúl Berzosa wrote. And it's that as a Catholic, he tries to communicate his faith through his works. In the text he says that this is the way he collaborates with God. That is, God, who is invisible, makes Himself visible through the Incarnation. And the painter uses his brushes to make that 'invisible' idea of the faith visible.”

For this book, Fr. Salvador Aguilera collected John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Pope Francis' best meditations about the most important week for Catholics.

“This Holy Week, I invite people to read the book as an alternative, since there won't be any processions in the streets. It's a way for those processions to enter into people's homes, through Raúl Berzosa's works. May the home become a domestic Church.”

The book is divided into 10 chapters. Each one begins with a quote from Sacred Scripture.

The prologue was written by Card. Robert Sarah, who highlights that art provides a way to nearly touch the mystery of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus.
