The president of Portugal asked the pope about his trip to Iraq.
What a wonderful trip, but tiring…
And I still haven’t fully recovered
It’s Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa's first official visit to the Vatican since his re-election last January. The Portuguese president's visit is a tradition, as the Holy See was the first country to recognize Portugal’s independence.
The president gifted the pope a book about collaboration on restoring the country's religious heritage.
It’s a small gift…
…but it’s from the heart.
The pope in exchange gave him his message from this year's World Day of Peace and the significant texts of his pontificate, as well as this year’s commemorative medal.
The ninth year of the pontificate begins the day after tomorrow.
The pope is scheduled to visit Portugal in the summer of 2023 to participate in the next World Youth Day, which will be held in Lisbon.
