Pope Francis' visit to Iraq was a trip through a land marked by the suffering left behind by fundamentalist attacks against Iraqis, and Christians especially.
The trip was marked by poignant images, like that of the pope amidst the ruins of Mosul, and historic ones like those from his meeting with Shia leader Ali al-Sistani.
This was the pope's first trip since the pandemic broke out in 2020. The last had been to Thailand and Japan in November of 2019.
