The pope met with this delegation of the Franciscan Solidarity Center of Florence.
“We are a center supported by Franciscans from all three families. We are volunteers, Franciscans and laypeople, with a Franciscan spirit.”
The volunteers at this center serve some 300 families. They distribute clothes to those in need and care for the elderly and other vulnerable people.
POPE FRANCIS
“Above all I want to say ‘thank you.’ Thank you for this. In a world that tends to run at two speeds, that on the one hand produces wealth but on the other creates inequality, you are a powerful instrument of service.”
Pope Francis praised the volunteers’ dedication because he said they follow the way of God, based on three fundamental principles.
POPE FRANCIS
“We have said the three words that are the way of God: closeness, God draws Himself near; compassion; and tenderness. This is the way of God and this should be your way. Closeness, compassion, and tenderness.
The Franciscan Solidarity Center of Florence began its mission 1983. In addition to offering material aid to the poor, they also provide counseling services to comfort those who feel abandoned or discouraged by life’s hardships.
