Getting donations to provide oxygen to those lacking it because of Covid-19 is Respira Peru's main objective.

This campaign began thanks to the combined efforts of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference, the University of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the National Society of Industries.

“We received donations from very important companies in Peru's financial sector. Using these resources and a telethon we organized with a Peruvian TV channel, we raised around 8 or 9 million soles to purchase oxygenation centers and concentrators.”

They say Peru currently produces a mere 20 percent of what people with Covid-19 need.

“We were especially shaken by something that happened last June. One of Peru's TV channels reported that in the jungle of the San Martin region, two children died from a lack of oxygen. That's when we understood the precariousness of the situation. The Peruvian jungle is rich in oxygen, but it was missing there.”

That event sparked this fundraising idea. Respira Peru has managed to donate oxygen plants, mobile oxygen plants and modular oxygen generators to regions in need.

The funds collected are managed by Caritas Peru and the Peruvian Episcopal Conference.

They continue to look for aid, which is why they have set up a website, respiraperu.com.pe for anyone interested in making a contribution.
