Being there always, for everyone. That's the message Caritas Rome and the Italian Red Cross want to convey with the opening of this center providing essential aid to the most vulnerable. They don't see homeless people; they just see people.
BENONI AMBARUS
Director, Caritas Rome
“For us it's a promotion of dignity, in the sense that I acknowledge that you also have the same needs for care and attention during this pandemic, as in any other case. You're a person like any other.”
The Italian Red Cross provides health services at this center, which can house about 60 people at a time.
They call it a transitional structure because from here, guests move on to different Caritas centers according to their specific needs.
The center also provides Covid-19 tests and respects health safety measures.
FRANCESCO ROCCA
National President of Italian Red Cross
“We give people living in conditions of extreme vulnerability a certainty that they can find a place where they are welcome. FLASH Once they're checked in, if they test negative for Covid-19, they're sent to other centers. That way we avoid new outbreaks.”
The initiative is one of the measures to halt the virus' spread and to allow Caritas Rome to continue to provide much-needed aid to the Eternal City's most vulnerable population.
