As a precautionary measure against the pandemic, the Vatican has canceled one of the most touching ceremonies the pope celebrates each year: the Baptism of infants.

The ceremony was not officially announced, but according to custom, it should have been held next Sunday. The Vatican says that this year the children will be baptized in their respective parishes.

Last year, Pope Francis baptized 32 infants. They were the children of Vatican employees. There he explained to them why it is essential to baptize children at an early age.

POPE FRANCIS
“Baptizing a child is an act of justice. Why? Because in Baptism, we give him or her a treasure. In Baptism, we give them a gift: the Holy Spirit.”

The pope usually celebrates these baptisms on the day of the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord. It is an impressive ceremony held inside the Sistine Chapel. The pope is usually very touched and always makes the families of the young ones feel at home there.
