Since the feast of All Souls is celebrated in November, the pope began the month by visiting this cemetery inside the Vatican.

During this period, the pope made the critical decision to centralize the management of the Vatican’s finances.

From now on, all departments will have to explain their expenses, and it will be more difficult for the Vatican’s money to be misused.

As a result, the Secretariat of State, its main department, has lost control of funds.

POPE FRANCIS
“Rigorous cost control curbs the recurring temptation of those in political or administrative positions to manage resources senselessly.”

One of the pope’s most moving encounters was this one with a missionary who had been kidnapped for two years in Niger and Mali.

His name is Pierluigi Maccalli. He said that the kidnappers gave him a radio, and he was moved after listening to the pope’s Mass at Pentecost by chance.

In November, the pope released the McCarrick report, which revealed how the former cardinal managed to cover up his abuses and became Archbishop of Washington.

The report reveals that Pope John Paul II did not give importance to the fact that Theodore McCarrick had shared a bed with young seminarians, as he denied having had relationships and no one had reported abuse.

Later, when Pope Benedict XVI learned in 2006 that the Archbishop had maintained relations with adults, he ordered him to retire and step down from his position, but without explaining that this was a sanction.

In 2014, the then Nuncio did not investigate the credibility of other new accusations.

It all ended in 2017 when a former altar boy reported being abused as a minor by Theodore McCarrick. Since it was a crime, Pope Francis expelled McCarrick from his position as a cardinal and priesthood.

CARD. PIETRO PAROLIN
Vatican Secretary of State
“These are pages that encourage us to reflect deeply and ask ourselves what more we can do in the future, learning from the painful experiences of the past.”

One of the most interesting visits of the year was that of these five NBA players that explained to the pope initiatives against racism.

November concluded with the first consistory for the creation of cardinals carried out by Zoom. Many participated through the virtual platform.

Among the new cardinals were Wilton Gregory, Archbishop of Washington; Antoine Kambanda, the first cardinal of Rwanda; or Raniero Cantalamessa, the preacher of the Papal Household.

At the end of the ceremony, the new cardinals went to greet Benedict XVI.

It’s a pleasure to see you are well.

Yes.

Here are the new ones.

This month’s protagonist was this woman from Guinea-Conakry, who lost her son during this sea rescue.

“I lost my baby. Where is my baby?”

These are the dramatic images caused by emigration, which has continued to claim victims throughout the year.
