Cardinal Konrad Krajewski has tested positive for Covid-19.
The test result was made known after the pope's almoner went to the Vatican's directorate of health and hygiene with symptoms indicating possible pulmonitis. He was then transferred to the Agostino Gemelli hospital.
The Vatican has announced that everyone who has been in contact with the cardinal in the last few days is being tested.
It is likely that the pope will also be tested, as he was also present during the final Advent meditation, on Dec. 18. The cardinal also likely accompanied the group of homeless people who gave Pope Francis a bouquet of sunflowers for his birthday.
Italian news reports say that another positive case inside the Vatican is Card. Giuseppe Bertello, president of the governorate of Vatican City.
