With a simple and paternal way of speaking, Pope Francis has been unveiling the mystery of Christmas during the almost eight years of his pontificate.

“This night is for you. The grace of God has appeared to shine in your life. Welcome it, and the light of Christmas will shine in you.”

His numerous contributions and suggestions for living this celebration better have been compiled in this text, “É nato per noi,” italian for “A Child is Born for us,”

“'A Child is Born for us, Christmas with Pope Francis,' is inspired by the entrance antiphon of the Christmas Mass. This short piece of work is intended as a guide or itinerary to help Christians live the Christmas season by re-reading the teachings of Pope Francis. That is why every day, from Dec. 25 to Jan. 6, the book offers texts from the pope's magisterium.”

The meditations are accompanied by beautiful images from the Vatican Museums' collection.

Salvador Aguilera has gone over all the lines pronounced by Pope Francis at Christmas. He says that besides being a book on which to meditate during the holidays, it can serve as a guide to understand St. Joseph's role in the life of Baby Jesus. It's an important role, especially this year, which marks the 150th anniversary of his proclamation as the patron saint of the Church.

“In one of the texts, the pope speaks of the three persons of the Holy Family. He says Jesus can be defined by the word 'descend,' Mary by the word 'trust' and Joseph by the word 'rise.' The figure of Joseph is essential in Jesus' childhood, when we find that He and the other children of that time feel threatened, and Joseph takes the Holy Family to Egypt.”

“É nato per noi,” “A Child is Born for us,” includes the Prayer for Families delivered by Pope Francis in 2013, very relevant in these seemingly dark days. They help meditate on the “splendor of love and trust” manifested in the Holy Family.

“The theme of family, the theme of not being able to attend churches as usual, makes us see the importance of the domestic Church and participation in the Sacraments.”

That is why it is important to live this Christmas in a special way to understand the heart of the Christian faith and return to the fundamentals.
