St. Peter's Square is once again adorned for Christmas, with the lights on the Christmas tree and manger all it up.

The Christmas tree is a spruce from Slovenia and is about 98 feet tall. Its trunk has a diameter of more than two feet.

This year the manger is made of ceramic and comes from Castelli, in Abruzzo. It contains 54 statues and will be placed on a platform measuring 125 square meters. The most talked-about piece was the statue of an astronaut, which reflects modernity.

The inauguration ceremony on Dec. 11 was held under strict security measures because of the pandemic. The tree and manger will remain on display until the end of Christmas, which coincides with the Baptism of the Lord, on Jan. 10, 2021.
