The Christmas tree to adorn St. Peter's Square is finally here. It's from the southeastern region of Slovenia.
It weighs seven tons and is 75 years old. It was planted right after the end of WWII.

“After the war, hope for a peaceful world, a peaceful and fraternal life, began to grow.”
The spruce tree is 30 meters tall, a number chosen to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the independence referendum held in the Republic of Slovenia.

“This is a very beautiful opportunity for Slovenia, and we're very proud to be able to present the Christmas tree for the second time. As I said, it's a symbolic act with which we begin these celebrations, remembering also 30 years of our country's history.”
Jakob Štunf, has been the Slovenian ambassador to the Holy See since 2019, when he presented his credentials to Pope Francis.
The inaugural lighting of the tree will take place on Friday, Dec. 11. It will remain in St. Peter's Square until the end of the Christmas Season on Jan. 10, 2021.
