The Latin American and Caribbean Migration Network (CLAMOR) and Venezuelan bishops have denounced the mistreatment of 16 underage immigrants by Trinidad and Tobago authorities.
These minors were deported alongside other adults, all presumably illegal immigrants. They were left drifting in a boat, without protection from the elements. They remained there for 48 hours until they made it to the coast.
The CLAMOR network and the Episcopal Conference criticized the words of the prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago because “they stigmatize migrants.”
Immigration in Latin America is a phenomenon that has been shaking the region's countries and causing tensions. According to the UNHCR, the number of Venezuelan refugees alone could reach 6.5 million by the end of the year.
