Church bells in Vienna rang out at noon today, to remember the victims of yesterday's attack in the Austrian capital.

Pope Francis published this message of solidarity in German. He sent greetings to victims and asked for an end to the violence and to build peace and fraternity together.

The city's archbishop, Card. Christoph Schönborn, published a message on Twitter during the attack, asking for prayers for victims and security forces.

Hours later, he added that it would be wrong to respond to these attacks with more hatred. He asked instead to turn to the values that make Austria a great country: solidarity, a spirit of community and respect.

The attack left four people dead and 21 injured. The police also killed the terrorist. The police asked the general public not to post videos of the event on social media, so as to keep those responsible in the dark and avoid spreading panic.
