During the Angelus, the pope explained the key to understanding his new encyclical, “Fratelli Tutti,” meaning “all brothers.”
POPE FRANCIS
“The signs of the times clearly show that human fraternity and care of creation form the sole way toward integral development and peace.”
The pope also reflected on this Sunday's Gospel. It tells the parable of the murderous vineyard workers, who use violence to take over the landowner's vineyard.
The pope explained that the story can also be applied to the Church.
POPE FRANCIS
“In any age, those who have authority, any authority, also in the Church, in God’s people, may be tempted to work in their own interests instead of those of God. (…) Authority is a service, and as such should be exercised, for the good of all and for the dissemination of the Gospel. It is awful to see when people who have authority in the Church seek their own interests.”
The reflection is extremely relevant today, given the Vatican's investigation of an inappropriate use of the Secretariat of State's funds by officials who, during interrogation, have also accused Card. Angelo Becciu.
The cardinal has not been accused of any crime, but the pope asked him to resign during the investigation.
