The new ambassador of the European Union to the Holy See arrived well-prepared and speaking a perfect Spanish.
“I'm committed to working and further improving relations, based on our shared values, like human dignity, human rights and a commitment to a sustainable future.”
“Thank you very much.”
With this declaration of her intentions, Alexandra Valkenburg-Roelofs presented her credentials. She has extensive diplomatic experience, and it's probably thanks to her years spent representing the Netherlands in Guatemala and Cuba that her Spanish is so good.
The pope gave her the main documents from his pontificate and agreed with the ambassador on the importance of strengthening ties with the European Union.
