The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis will intervene at the UN General Assembly held every September. Like all the leaders, he will participate from a distance, from Rome, this coming Sept. 22, during the so-called High Level Week.
Due to the pandemic, the assembly will be the most virtual in history.
ANTONIO GUTERRES
UN Secretary General
“The world looks to the United Nations as the indispensable forum for international cooperation on global challenges. Let us continue our work together to beat the pandemic and build a better future.”
The General Assembly will address the challenge of promoting cooperation between member states that have been negatively affected by the pandemic.
VOLKAN BOZKIR
President of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly
“It is our responsibility to strengthen people’s faith in multilateral cooperation and international institutions, with the UN at their center.”
It's an idea that lines up perfectly with Pope Francis' proposal during this pandemic.
The pope intervened in the UN General Assembly five years ago, during his trip to Cuba and the United States.
