This was the last time the pope held his General Audience in the presence of pilgrims. It was Feb. 26, before the coronavirus forced Italy into lockdown.
On March 11, St. Peter's Square remained empty, as online streaming became the only way to follow the weekly event.
On Sept. 2, after more than five months, the faithful will once more be allowed to attend the General Audience in person. Instead of being held in St. Peter's Square as before, the weekly audiences will be held in the Courtyard of St. Damasus, at least for the month of September.
Health safety precautions will be observed. The audiences will begin at 9:30 a.m., local time. Doors open at 7:30 a.m., and tickets are not required for entry.
