Archbishop Moses Costa (69) of Chittagong, Bangladesh died Monday, after recovering from the coronavirus. His funeral Mass took place on Tuesday evening at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Cathedral Church.
He had tested positive for the virus on June 13 and was admitted to Square Hospital's ICU in Dhaka. On June 22, after a noted recovery, his results came back negative for COVID-19. On July 8 though, he was sent to the ICU again. He had a brain hemorrhage, which caused multiple strokes and his eventual death.
Archbishop Costa is the highest-ranking Bangladeshi member of clergy to die during the pandemic.
He participated in his ad limina meeting with Pope Francis in May 2018, accompanied by his brother bishops. He had served as the secretary-general of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Bangladesh and was responsible for their Commission on Youth.
