Pope Francis wrote a letter of condolences to his predecessor on the death of the pope emeritus' brother, Georg Ratzinger.
The pope begins the letter thanking Benedict for personally sharing the news of Georg's death with him, before making it public.
Pope Francis writes he is praying for the pope emeritus and his deceased brother, before signing the letter “filially and fraternally.”
In mid-June, Benedict XVI traveled to Germany to say goodbye to his brother Georg. He was 96 years old and was his last living close relative.
