As churches open across Italy on Monday, May 18, the Vatican is also preparing.

Vatican firemen inspect the cobblestones in St. Peter's Square, using spray to kill the weeds that have grown between them in the two months of closure.

Additionally, security measures are being laid out. Yellow tape marks the required meter-distance all pilgrims must maintain while entering the basilica. Red circular indications are also glued on to the ground, for further explanation.

Along with other measures, the Holy See has announced that faithful must have their temperature checked upon entrance in papal basilicas in Rome, ensuring the safety of all pilgrims.
