The College of Cardinals has lost Renato Corti, who passed away the morning of May 12 at 84 years of age.
Cardinal Corti was vice-president of the Italian Bishops' Conference from 2005 to 2015. He was vicar general of the archdiocese of Milan, at the time headed by Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini.
He traveled to different churches in Africa and Latin America, offering support and encouragement to missionary priests there.
In November 2016, Pope Francis made Renato Corti a cardinal.
After his death, the College of Cardinals is left with 222 members, 122 of them eligible to vote in a conclave.
