A new and extensive biography of Benedict XVI, written by one of the people who know him best, Peter Seewald, is ready in German bookstores. It is titled 'Benedict XVI The Biography: Volume One.'
Benedict XVI has published four other books with Peter Seewald, during his time as cardinal, pope and pope emeritus. This new book also includes a long interview conducted in 2018.
LifeSite News published some passages from that dialogue in which the pope emeritus mentions homosexuality and abortion.
Peter Seewald asks him if, at the beginning of his pontificate, he asked for prayers 'not to flee from the wolves,' foreseeing the attacks he would later receive.
Benedict replies that 'the real threat to the Church and with it to the Petrine Office does not come from such things, but from the world-wide dictatorship of seemingly humanistic ideologies.” If you contradict them, they exclude you from the 'basic consensus in society.'
He gives as examples homosexual marriage, abortion and the production of humans in laboratories. He says, 'modern society is in the middle of formulating an anti-Christian creed, and if one opposes it, one is being punished by society with excommunication.'
“The fear of this spiritual power of the Anti-Christ is then only more than natural, and it really needs the help of prayers on the part of an entire diocese and of the Universal Church in order to resist it.”
The biography includes many unknown details in its more than one thousand pages. Peter Seewald says he has been working in it for five years. In the fall 2020, it will be published by the Bloomsbury House in English and the Loyola Communication Group in Spanish.
