Former Grand Master, Order of Malta
“The Order of Malta goes out to meet the poor, where it is obvious, which is on the street, but also to the poverty of families. In recent times, we have noticed that there are two emergencies that have grown and are, paradoxically, poorly understood.'
During his time as Grand Master, Dalla Torre patched up problems with the Vatican, begun by the previous Grand Master, Matthew Festing, who debated who should run the Order.
To elect a new Grand Master, 54 senior officials meet at the Magistral Villa in Rome for a secret ballot vote. Due to coronavirus, this election could be pushed back.
