In his homily at Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis commented on the Gospel passage about the multiplication of the fishes and loaves. He said it is an example of a pastor's need to stay close to the people.
POPE FRANCIS
This is what Jesus says today to all pastors: 'You feed them. Are they troubled? Give them consolation. Are they lost? Show them the way out. Are they wrong? Help them solve their problems. You give to them.'
The pope also said a pastor's power is service, and that when he mistakenly turns to other forms of power, he ruins his vocation. “The heart of the pastor is what allows for pastoral work,” he said.
