The pandemic is marking our present, but there are also lessons for the future. Many things depend on decisions we make today.
That's why the 163 members of the Pontifical Academy for Life have prepared an ambitious document with ideas for how to navigate in this new world.

“We remain at home, not only for ourselves, but to protect others. There is a bond that unites us, like many families in a single, universal family. This is a great lesson we must learn and retain for the future after the virus.”
Vincenzo Paglia oversees the Pontifical Academy for Life. He explains that the pandemic is revealing the devastating effects of individualism. He says the best antivirus is solidarity.

“The only path to tomorrow is forming a new bond that unites everyone. That's why we've already begun this new phase.”
He says medical staff, volunteers, doctors, priests and nuns who treat the sick are displaying the attitude needed to rebuild society.

“These people have put themselves in danger of being infected, not for a monthly salary, but out of a desire to cure others.”
“They teach us that, without passion, without giving one's life for others—some have given it even physically—the world doesn't move forward.”
The document “Global Pandemic and Universal Brotherhood” addresses many issues. It shows however , that the first building block for the future is the strength of human relationships.
It's a good place to start.
