Archbishop Michael J. Byrnes is taking to Facebook to encourage not only his archdiocese, but the whole Christian community during the COVID-19 lock-down.

He reflects on the following prayer, saying perseverance is one of the most important Christian virtues.

ARCHBISHOP MICHAEL BYRNES
Archdiocese of Agaña, Guam
'We pray, we invoke your mercy in humble prayer, Oh, Lord. That you may cause us, your servants, corrected by penance and schooled by good works, to persevere sincerely in your commands and come safely to the Paschal mysteries.”

He explained that Catholicism is an endurance sport. Thus, while these times are difficult for everyone, it's important to look for signs of hope.

“We're seeing, at least in the media, more expressions of kindness, more expressions of genuine care. More expressions of a kind of courage that it takes for us, especially for those who are caregivers, those who are working in the medical field, are becoming our heroes.”

Archbishop Byrnes says among disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer, there is also an interior washing taking place. While stuck at home, this spring cleaning can be marked by the Lord's grace, consisting of patience, kindness and care for one's neighbor.
