At noon, Italy was silent. This minute of silence was in honor of the many victims from the coronavirus throughout the country and for their families.

Mayors from every Italian city, set their flags at half-mast in honor of those who have died.

The Vatican also participated, lowering its flag in solidarity with Italy. The half-mast flags flew above deserted streets, indicative of the times.

With this gesture, the Vatican want to express their closeness to the victims of the pandemic in Italy and throughout the world, to their families and to those tirelessly working to end the virus.

The initiative was launched by the President of Bergamo, one of the most-affected areas from the virus.

Now, it has spread throughout Italy, making it's way to the Holy See. The smallest country on earth also salutes all those who are fighting and have lost the battle to COVID-19.
