The pope began Mass explaining that he was going to pray for doctors combating the coronavirus and for the sick, but also for priests.

POPE FRANCIS
We pray to God also for our priests, so they have courage to go out to the sick, bringing the strength of the Word of God and the Eucharist. To accompany the medical workers and volunteers in the work they are doing.

In the homily, the Pope has asked Christians not to be afraid to talk to God about our sins.

POPE FRANCIS
Today the Lord calls all of us sinners to dialogue with Him. Because sin closes us in on ourself, it makes us hide or hide our truth inside us.

The pope is celebrating Mass in his residence, without pilgrims. Only his closest collaborators are attending.

The Mass is being transmitted live online, since Italy has suspended Mass until the coronavirus crisis is resolved.
