For this month of March, Pope Francis proposes praying for Christians in China.
In his video-message, he asks for prayers “for the Church in China to persevere in fidelity to the Gospel and to grow in unity.”
Pope Francis says “the Church wants Chinese Christians to be truly Christians and to be good citizens.” He also says they “should promote the Gospel, but without engaging in proselytism, and they need to achieve the unity of the divided Catholic community.”
In September 2018, the Vatican drafted a framework agreement with China, 67 years after the papal representative was expelled, rupturing diplomatic relations. The agreement allows Rome, for the first time, to freely name bishops. The agreement should be renewed next September.
