Increased energy, ditching hunger and alleviating a majority of physical problems... sounds like magic. But this is the simple recipe SOMOS Community Care and PlantPure are cooking up in the Eternal City, hoping to eventually reach the pope.
Their idea is a plant-based, carb-rich diet. The catch is for people to try it only 10 days, and watch as medical problems disappear. They came to Italy to discuss these dramatic health and environmental benefits.
DIEGO PONIEMAN
Chief Medical Officer
“At the Vatican we're going to be presenting the whole project and we will go from there. We we want to transform their kitchen. We are willing even to talk to the person who is managing and doing the food.”

“So this is a program where people go on the diet for 10 days, we provide the food, we provide education, pre- and post-biometrics. And when we first did that, I was astounded at how quickly people healed. I mean, type two diabetics getting off their insulin and just massive changes in people's numbers. It was remarkable.”
Spending less time in doctors offices is the goal of SOMOS Community Care, who help low-income communities in New York. They hope affordable, healthy food can reach peoples' home directly from food-production facilities.
THOMAS HOERING
General Counsel SOMOS
“We serve all of over three quarters of a million New Yorkers. We really are completely changing the whole paradigm of healthcare by addressing healthcare in a completely different way. That is really focusing not only on the medical treatment, but also what we call the social determinants of health.”
These include homelessness, drug addictions and domestic violence among others. That's why they believe going to the root, is the way to heal bodies and also the globe.

“Many people who are involved in the climate debate don't understand how important our food choices are. In fact, we're supporting a well known climate researcher now doing a study and, and it's looking like he's going to be able to demonstrate through his study that animal agriculture contributes 30 to 40 percent of the global warming effect.”
Apart from their time in Rome, they are launching a national campaign all across the United States. PlantPure has developed a line of food products to help people do the 10-day trial, waiving 100 percent of its profit margin.
Additionally, pods, or small communities, support plant-based eating around the world, helping others learn recipes and change these men hope will last a lifetime.
