Pope Francis goes to Bari to meet with around 60 Catholic bishops from countries surrounding the Mediterranean area. They will pray and discuss concrete solutions for peace in the Middle East.
The theme is the “Mediterranean: Frontier of Peace.” The goal of the synod-style meeting is to demonstrate that the Mediterranean has historically joined civilizations.
Migration, evangelization, cultural exchange and peace are the topics the Catholic leaders from North Africa, Europe and the Middle East will cover.
Following his arrival, the pope will meet with the bishops to see their conclusions from the 5-day encounter.
