Pope Francis delivered an important message on the occasion of a public holiday: the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Rome as the capital of Italy.
He took the opportunity to remind of the approaching ordinary jubilee, to take place in 2025. He didn't say what the theme will be. It's the first time the pope publicly mentions the upcoming jubilee.
Pope Francis organized the previous jubilee, an extraordinary one, in 2015 and 2016. It was dedicated to mercy.
The jubilee in 2025 will be ordinary, as it is in keeping with the norm of leaving a 25-year margin between each one. The previous ordinary jubilee took place in the year 2000, during John Paul II's pontificate. It was the event with which the Catholic Church prepared to enter into the third millennium.
