During the Angelus on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also World Day for Consecrated Life, Pope Francis reflected on the lives of Mary, Joseph, Simeon and Anna. He called them models of availability and self-giving to God.

The pope called Christians to follow this example by adopting an attitude of movement and by avoiding stagnancy.

POPE FRANCIS
Immobility is out of keeping with the Christian witness and the mission of the Church. The world is in need of Christians who allow themselves to be moved, who do not tire of walking on the paths of life, to bring to everyone the comforting Word of Jesus.

The second attitude the pope spoke of was amazement. He used the example of St. Anna, who was so amazed by Jesus' coming that she went and spread the Good News to others.

POPE FRANCIS
She is a chatty saint, but she chatted the right way. She chatted about good things, not ugly things. She spoke. She announced. She is a saint who would go from one woman to another, showing them Jesus.

Pope Francis called Christians to do the same. He said the ability to be amazed makes an encounter with the Lord fruitful.

POPE FRANCIS
On the other hand, the inability to be amazed leads to indifference and increases the distance between the journey of faith and daily life. Brothers and sisters, let us be in constant motion and remain open to amazement!

After the Angelus, the pope invited pilgrims to join him in praying a Hail Mary for all consecrated men and women, whose tremendous work often goes unnoticed.

Ave Maria....
