This historic toy store is hidden in a corner of the famous Piazza Navona. It's called “Al Sogno” and opened in 1945. The merchandise is so unique that store-owner Anna Maria says there is a long list of celebrities who have stopped by.

These include Bill Clinton and Hollywood actor Tyrone Power.

“Tyrone Power bought a toy car and a crib for his two daughters. There have also been filmmakers like Fellini. I don't remember them all because I'm getting old. I can't remember every name.”

Although the store specializes in stuffed toys, it is toys like these that are the secret of its success. From Barbie dolls dressed in unique outfits made by artists, to these delicate, hand-painted, porcelain dolls whose value can surpass $1,700.

“Russians are collectors of porcelain dolls, like the ones you see there. Americans love the porcelain dolls, but they especially like the Lenci brand dolls. Lenci was a handcraft brand that doesn't exist anymore. We still have some antique Lenci dolls. They're authentic and have the certificate.”

The store has its share of lead figurines, from historical figures like Einstein, Lincoln and Lenin, to legends like King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table. These hand-painted toys are one-of-a-kind. Each is unique. Of course there is Pinocchio, highly prized by the general public and the store's private museum. The museum lets the most nostalgic visitors remember their childhood toys.

This careful selection of handcrafted dolls has made “Al Sogno” a special place for toy lovers.
