The Pontifical Biblical Commission has fulfilled the pope's request to publish a study of Holy Scripture from an anthropological perspective.

The result is this book: “What is man and woman?” It contains four chapters and 330 pages. In it are reflections on what the Bible says about some current controversial questions.

For example, it shows that with regard to homosexuality, Scripture distinguishes sin from the sinner. It says the Bible doesn't talk about erotic tendencies toward a person of the same sex, but rather that it talks only about homosexual acts, which are judged negatively.

It also recalls paradigmatic examples like that of Sodom, whose major sin was not sexual vice but a rejection of the stranger. The document says the sin of the people of Sodom was using sex as a means to abuse and subdue the other.
