This is how the new Brazilian ambassador to the Holy See delivered his credentials.
It's a pleasure.
Welcome.
Thank you, it's my pleasure to present my credentials to you.
Thank you.
Henrique da Silveira Sardinha Pinto is a 63-year-old lawyer. He's had a long diplomatic career as a Brazilian ambassador in Israel and Algeria.
The new ambassador is from the first country Pope Francis visited when elected pope. He gave the pope a painting of Matthew's conversion, which is a replica of a fresco in his new diplomatic headquarters.
Matthew's conversion.
Yes, Matthew's conversion.
The ambassador's family and staff attended the meeting with him. Pope Francis made a special gesture by praying a Hail Mary with them, after giving them rosaries.
Hail Mary.
Later, the pope and new ambassador had a meeting behind closed doors. There, they discussed the relationship the two states have had since 1829.
