This is how Martin Pascal Tine presented Pope Francis his credentials as the new ambassador of Senegal.
The two leaders however, were not the focus of the meeting. The real protagonists were the diplomat's son and two daughters.
“What is his name?”
“Serge Emmanuel.”
Pope Francis asked the girls their names, then took a picture with the whole family. They wore traditional Senegalese clothing for the occasion.
Afterward, the new ambassador introduced the pope to all his collaborators.
He gave the pope an interesting gift.
“It's a souvenir from Senegal.”
The pope gave the ambassador the documents written during his pontificate. He gave other gifts to the diplomat's family.
Martin Pascal Tine speaks English, French and Wolof, a language of Senegal. He has worked in his country's diplomatic office since 2014.
