Pope Francis met with workers of the Dicastery for Communication, the Vatican's media offices.

The prefect, Paulo Ruffini, is the first layman to head a Vatican Dicastery. Ruffini opened the second plenary meeting for the group.

PAULO RUFFINI
Prefect, Dicastery for Communication

“Our dicastery is new, but it wants to inherit and pass on an ancient and living history. It's a department that with its many editorial offices, languages and branches, comes together as a single community. The media, as we have been reminded many times, has a fundamental role in building and destroying.”

In his improvised speech, the pope asked the reporters to communicate by setting an example.

POPE FRANCIS
“Our communication must be a witness. If you want to communicate just one truth without goodness and beauty, stop! Do not do it. If you want to communicate a truth more or less, but without involving yourselves, without witnessing that truth with your own life, with your own flesh, stop! Do not do it.”

Pope Francis encouraged them to follow the structure of communication in the book of the “Acts of the Apostles.” He said this will aid them in spreading the joy of the Gospel.
