On Monday, July 1, Pope Francis will announce the canonization dates for English Card. John Henry Newman, along with four other blesseds.
It will take place at 10 a.m. in the Vatican’s Clementine Hall. There, the pope will preside over the celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours and Ordinary Public Consistory for the blesseds.
The four other blesseds included Sr. Dulce Lopes Pontes, Sr. Giuseppina Vannini, Sr. Maria Teresa Chiramel Mankidiyan and finally Margarita Bays.
Card. Newman will be the first new saint from Britain since Pope Paul VI canonized St. John Ogilvie in 1976. Pope Benedict XVI beatified Newman during his visit to England in 2010. This was despite the fact he had implemented a new rule that it was not required for the pope to preside over beatifications.
