The Prime Minister of Slovenia, Marjan Šarec, met with Pope Francis in the Vatican's Apostolic Palace.

Good morning, Your Holiness.

It's a pleasure to see you.

I do not speak Italian.

What do you speak... Slovenian?

During their meeting they touched on two fundamental issues: the Church's contribution to the country, especially in education, and the future of the European project.

This is this year's Message of Peace.

During the exchange of gifts, the pope gave his Message for Peace for 2019 and the document he signed with the Sunni Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb. It is a document that makes a list of common points, both committed to defend and promote. For example: it condemns the use of religion to justify violence.

Catholics are the majority in Slovenia, 57 percent of the population. The country was visited by John Paul II twice, in '96 and '99.
