This is how the new ambassador of France to the Holy See delivered her credentials.

Elisabeth Betòn Delègue, 64, has a long diplomatic career, and has been ambassador to Chile, Mexico and Haiti. For this reason, when meeting with the pope, they spoke in Spanish.

'Meet my family.'

Pope Francis greeted the ambassador's family and main collaborators.

The pope joked about the weight of the gifts he gave her. They are a selection of the most important texts of his pontificate.

Fifty-two percent of France is Catholic. France and the Holy See have had a formal exchange of ambassadors for more than 430 years.

In a positive sign, the meeting ended with a long private meeting between the pope and the new ambassador.
