In a mere three days, Pope Francis left an impressionable mark on Romania from May 31-June 2, 2019. He was the first pope to visit the country after John Paul II visited 20 years ago.
He visited with civil authorities, members and leaders of the Orthodox church. He also celebrated Mass with the less than seven percent of citizens that are part of the Roman Catholic Church living in the country.
In addition to promoting community and dialogue, Pope Francis also beatified seven Greek-Catholic bishops. They were martyred for their faith in the country under the Communist regime.
Additionally, he asked forgiveness from the gypsy community on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church. He apologized for the times the Church discriminated against them all throughout history.
