The pope left for Rome from Skpoje airport after a farewell ceremony attended by the President of North Macedonia.
Pope Francis completed a busy day in the country. In total he only spent around 10 hours in North Macedonia. However, despite the short amount of time there he participated in five events. He is also the first pope to visit this country and is where Mother Teresa of Calcutta was born.
It has been an intense three day trip for the pope. It began in Bulgaria where Pope Francis met with the small Catholic community that account for less than one percent of the entire population. He visited a refugee reception center too.
